Sherry Summers, teaching since 1995, is one of St. Louis’ most experienced and respected Yoga teachers.  She has trained extensively in Iyengar, ParaYoga and Tibetan yoga and is experienced in many forms of movement and dance including 7 years of capoeira (a Brazilian martial arts/dance form) and some Contact Improv.  For the last 6 years, Sherry has focused her advanced teaching on Tantra-Hatha Yoga in the Himalayan tradition as learned from YogaRupa, Rod Stryker.  Sherry, certified E-RYT 500 hours by the accreditation organization, Yoga Alliance, soon receives her 200 hour ParaYoga Dedicated Teacher status from Stryker.

Both new and experienced Yoga practitioners embrace their natural flow of health and happiness under Sherry’s guidance, learning first compassion and acceptance. Her teaching focuses on precise principles of alignment, Pranayama (directing energy with the flow of breath), visualization and meditation – all to provide more experiences of balance, freedom and joy in one’s everyday life.  Sherry’s students include other yoga professionals, homemakers, doctors, lawyers, and CEOs.  She founded a Yoga and meditation program for St. Louis homeless women.  She has been a Yoga studio manager and consultant and currently teaches group classes at Sri Mata, her home studio in Maplewood and at Big Bend Center in Webster Groves. http://www.bigbendyoga.com/

It’s Sherry’s passion and gift to gracefully guide students to regularly experience the radiance of their own souls through Bhakti, KarmaYoga, Tantra, Kundalini and, especially through  Divine Mother worship and Agni practices, both internal and external.  She creatively weaves mantra and chanting into her advanced classes, workshops and retreats; music being the Divine gift that surrenders our egos to pure love!

Sherry’s retreats and and workshops are sometimes co-creations with other dynamic leaders; from therapists, to musicians, to breathworkers and healers of all kinds.  A commitment to helping people discover and nurture the grace of awareness guides Sherry to share her experience and teachings from every realm including Non-Violent Communication, Byron Katie’s “The Work”, Rumi and ecstatic dance practices, inner child paradigms, dream and myth exploration, Shamanism and Divine Feminine rituals, and the teachings of Aidvaita and Buddhism.

She reveres Yoga as a means for healing and transformation, and as an expression of celebrating life.  Sherry is also a certified Thai Yoga Massage Therapist and offers private “Yogic Lifestyle” coaching in her home studio or at your residence.
